Chase McPhaul Car Accident – Obituary SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS — The San Antonio community is mourning the loss of Chase (Patrick C.) McPhaul, a devoted father, loving husband and well-known local resident who died following a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 Thursday morning, authorities confirmed.
McPhaul, 42, was identified by the San Antonio Police Department as the man killed in a three-vehicle collision that occurred at approximately 10:21 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, on I-10 near the Camp Bullis Road exit and The Rim shopping district on the northwest side of the city.
According to law enforcement, McPhaul had been involved in a minor crash and briefly exited his vehicle to speak with another driver when the tragic second impact occurred. As he returned to his car, he was struck from behind by the driver of a Chevy work truck and then hit again after being thrown into a concrete barrier. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The collision forced closure of the westbound lanes of I-10 for several hours, creating significant traffic disruption throughout the morning commute as investigators and cleanup crews worked at the scene.
Loved ones describe McPhaul as “a devoted family man” whose presence brought joy and laughter to those around him. A dedicated father and husband, he was known for his kindness, generosity and commitment to his community. Colleagues and friends remember him as someone who always put his family first and enriched the lives of others with his quick wit, caring nature and warm spirit.
“He lived for his family and always made time for others,” one close friend said. “San Antonio has lost someone truly special.”
McPhaul is survived by his spouse, children, extended family and a wide circle of friends who are struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss. Arrangements for memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.
The San Antonio Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash, and no charges have been publicly announced at this time.
The community extends its deepest condolences to the McPhaul family in this time of unimaginable grief and loss. McPhaul’s legacy as a beloved husband, father and friend will be remembered by all whose lives he touched.
